Description
I am a resident at 83 St Loy’s Road, N17 6UE. I am writing to request urgent assistance regarding a large tree located between my property and my neighbour’s property.
The tree’s branches are overhanging into my garden, and a significant amount of leaves and debris are falling into our gutters and drainage pipes, causing repeated blockages. As a result, when it rains, the water cannot drain properly through the downpipes and instead overflows, running down the external walls of the property. We are increasingly concerned that this ongoing issue may lead to damp problems and potential structural damage if it is not addressed soon.
During periods of heavy rainfall, the situation becomes significantly worse, with water backing up and spilling over the drainage system.
In addition, my mother is unwell and suffers from asthma and hay fever. The pollen from the tree is aggravating her respiratory condition and is posing a genuine health concern. Furthermore, dirt and residue from the leaves are also affecting our ability to dry clothes outside safely, as they become contaminated when hung in the garden.
We previously contacted the council and were advised that if the tree belongs to a neighbouring property, permission would be required from the neighbour before any work could be carried out. However, when we spoke with our neighbour, they stated that the tree is not within their garden. From our observation, the tree appears to be growing between the two fences and may not clearly belong to either property.
Given the ongoing property damage, drainage issues, and health concerns, we kindly request that the council Arrange an inspection as soon as possible and If appropriate, carry out or authorise urgent trimming of the overhanging branches.

We are also concerned about potential liability should further damage occur while the responsibility for the tree remains unclear.
I would be grateful if this matter could be treated as urgent due to the continuing nature of the issue and its impact on both property and health.

I can provide photographs of the blocked gutters, water overflow, and the tree position if required.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response.
Kind regards,
