27/10/2025 Dear Haringey Council Tree Maintenance Team, We are writing to express serious concern about a very large and overgrown tree situated on outside 125 Effingham Road, N8 0AE. The condition of this tree has deteriorated significantly, and it now presents a clear hazard to both the public and surrounding properties. The tree’s roots have become extremely invasive, pushing up and fracturing large sections of the pavement. This has created uneven and unstable surfaces that are increasingly difficult and unsafe to navigate for pedestrians, wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs, and children using scooters. It is particularly hazardous for elderly residents and anyone with limited mobility, who may struggle to maintain balance on the raised and broken paving. During periods of rain or icy weather, these conditions worsen considerably, making slips, trips, and falls not only likely but almost inevitable if the situation is left unaddressed. Additionally, the upper branches of the tree have grown extensively into nearby telephone and utility cables. This raises serious safety concerns, especially during windy or stormy conditions, when movement or breakage could easily damage infrastructure or cause injury. There is also the potential for electrical sparks or power disruption should the branches come into contact with live cables, posing a serious fire and electrocution risk to nearby residents and properties. Furthermore, the volume of falling leaves is also considerable. The pavement and residents’ front gardens are regularly covered in thick layers of wet leaves, which quickly become slippery and hazardous, especially during the icy weather. The ongoing accumulation poses a significant hazard to pedestrians and residents. Given the scale of these issues, we respectfully request that the Council undertake an urgent inspection of this tree. It appears to have outgrown its location, and despite the environmental value of trees, this particular one now presents more risk than benefit in its current state. I would therefore ask that serious consideration be given to its removal to ensure the safety and wellbeing of local residents and pedestrians. Many thanks for your continued support. Kind regards, Concerned Residents.
